Celebrating Employees Who Make an Impact
At the City of Tamarac, we celebrate excellence, innovation, and service. Employees are recognized in a variety of ways—through lump sum performance rewards, Bravo awards, service milestones, professional development support, and our annual Reaching for the Stars event.
The Extra Mile in Public Service Award was established to honor exceptional employees whose contributions extend far beyond internal recognition. This distinguished award highlights actions that are public-facing—those that directly impact residents, businesses, visitors, or the broader community. It is reserved for individuals who demonstrate outstanding dedication, bold innovation, or service that leaves a visible, lasting impression. Their work enhances public trust, fosters connection, and sets a high standard for what it means to serve.
Who Can Nominate
This program welcomes nominations from members of the City Commission, City employees, and members of the public. It provides an opportunity for anyone who has witnessed exceptional public service to acknowledge the efforts of Tamarac staff whose actions make a visible difference and set a high standard for service excellence.
How It Works?
Nominations are accepted year-round and reviewed by the City Manager or their designee. Awards are given while funding is available in the program’s annual budget.
Notification Process
A confirmation email will be sent following submission of an application. Notification of the outcome will be provided within three (3) weeks.
Award Criteria
- ✅Extraordinary Customer Service – Delivered an exceptional level of service to a resident, visitor, or stakeholder—resolving a complex or sensitive issue with creativity, compassion, and persistence that left a lasting public impact.
- ✅Public Advocacy or Representation – Actively championed community needs or concerns in a way that led to tangible improvements in programs, policies, or services that benefit the public.
- ✅ Exceptional Innovation or Initiative – Introduced or implemented a creative solution, process, or idea that enhanced efficiency, service quality, or public engagement—far exceeding the expectations of the employee’s role.
- ✅Leadership in Action – Inspired or mobilized others through strong leadership, collaboration, and decision-making that advanced the City’s mission and values in ways that improved service delivery, strengthened public trust, or had a visible benefit to the community—regardless of official title or position.
- ✅Acts of Heroism or Responsibility – Demonstrated courage, quick thinking, or personal responsibility in a high-pressure or emergency situation, protecting people, property, or City assets in service to the public.
Award Benefits
- ✅ Monetary award of up to $1,000.
- ✅ Recognition at a City employee recognition event.
- ✅ Featured in the City’s employee publication.
