TAMARAC RETAINS FLOOD INSURANCE DISCOUNTS FOR RESIDENTS

Press Releases Posted on November 09, 2021

TAMARAC, Fla. (November 5, 2021) – More than 5,000 Tamarac property owners required to carry flood insurance can continue to receive a 20% discount, thanks to the Class 6 rating the City has held by the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System (CRS) since 2011.

Every year the City publishes an annual progress report describing its flood plain management that is available on http://www.Tamarac.org/flood. It outlines how the City maintains its water systems and roadways, including:

  • Approximately 560 acres of open waterways
  • 82 miles of drainage pipes and 4,669 catch basins
  • Approximately 137 miles of paved roadways
  • Three storm water pump stations

Phase VI of the Citywide Culvert and Headwall Improvement Project is one of the projects highlighted in this year’s report. This is an ongoing citywide program with a bi-annual budget of $800,000. The C-14 Canal Erosion Control Project are improvements necessary due to the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) concern over erosion occurring along the C-14 canal opposite the City’s West and Central Storm Water Master Pump Stations. The budget for this project is $700,000.

Statistics show that all homes have a 26% chance of experiencing a flood during the life of a 30-year mortgage – whether they’re in a flood zone or not. That’s why the City encourages residents and businesses to learn about flood hazards and protections and to carry flood insurance, even if they aren’t required to do so.

Tamarac distributes an annual flood protection brochure in its bi-monthly Tam-A-Gram magazine, mailed to approximately 36,000  homes and businesses, and provides a wealth of flood information online. Just visit www.Tamarac.org/flood
