Tamarac, Fla. (April 17, 2025) – On April 16, the City of Tamarac marked a significant milestone with a demolition and groundbreaking event for the highly anticipated Eastside Community Center, located at the former Shaker Village clubhouse site at 2 The Common, Tamarac, Florida 33319. Members of the City Commission, City leadership and community stakeholders attended the event.
This moment also marks the long-awaited removal of a long-standing eyesore: four freestanding, unsupported walls that remained after the original clubhouse was decimated by Hurricane Irma almost a decade ago. Visible from Commercial Boulevard, the deteriorating walls had become a frequent source of complaints from residents as they began accumulating graffiti and contributing to neighborhood blight. Their removal represents physical progress and a visual and symbolic step forward for the community.
The transformation of this site into a vibrant community hub aligns with the long-term vision outlined in Tamarac's East Side Parks Feasibility Study to enhance recreational and community spaces across the City. The property's acquisition was made possible through secured grant funding, ensuring no taxpayer dollars were used. This strategic investment reflects the City’s continued commitment to responsible financial planning and community-focused growth.
Once completed, the new Eastside Community Center will feature various amenities promoting recreation and connection, including an approximately 10,000-square-foot community center, a walking trail, a playground, a pavilion and a fishing pier.
