TAMARAC COMMISSION ADOPTS RESOLUTION TO EXTEND HEALTH BENEFITS TO REGISTERED DOMESTIC PARTNERS OF EMPLOYEES
Tamarac, Fla. (July 1, 2021) – Wednesday, June 9, the Tamarac City Commission voted to provide health and benefits coverage to registered domestic partners of City employees, an effort sponsored by District 1 Commissioner Marlon Bolton.
At Tamarac’s February 24, 2021 Commission meeting, District 1 Commissioner Marlon Bolton introduced the resolution to provide health and insurance benefits to domestic partners of employees and their dependents who are involved in a registered domestic partnership.
A registered domestic partnership is a committed relationship between individuals who live as a family, whether it’s under the same roof or not. Domestic partnerships were recognized in Broward County with the adoption of the Broward County Domestic Partnership Act of 1999.
“I’m pleased the resolution I brought forth helps to bring us one step closer to equality for people who classify themselves as family,” said Bolton. “This is truly reflective of who Tamarac is as a City.”
The new coverage option for City of Tamarac staff will take effect January 1, 2022.
Also, during the June 9 meeting, a resolution that affirms Tamarac as "a safe city committed to building a diverse and inclusive community that welcomes individuals regardless of differences" was passed by the Commission.
