[ARCHIVED] TAMARAC TO PAY TRIBUTE TO FALLEN HEROES AT ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

(May 16, 2025)— The City of Tamarac invites the community to Veterans’ Memorial Park, 7825 Southgate Blvd., for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony to recognize, honor and show gratitude to fallen heroes for their service and sacrifice on Monday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony includes a Presentation of Colors led by the Tamarac Fire Rescue Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Tamarac Veterans Affairs Committee member Jay Koutcher. Vocalist Chantal Deshaies will sing the national anthem. The ceremony will also feature a wreath-laying tribute and a moving performance of “Amazing Grace” in remembrance of fallen military heroes. Closing the heartfelt event will be a musical performance by the a cappella choir, The Miamians.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Major Maryanna Sheck of the U.S. Marine Corps. Major Sheck enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2003, and completed recruit training at Parris Island, followed by occupational training as a Supply Admin Clerk. In 2005, she deployed to Iraq where she was accepted to the Naval Academy, which she attended from 2006-2011. Following her commissioning, she has had the opportunity to conduct operations and exercises in the Indo-Pacific, supervise the training of recruits at Parris Island, South Carolina. Oversee logistic operations at a Marine Corps Aviation Squadron in Arizona, and execute planning and operations in support of a Navy and Marine Corps Task Force out of Bahrain. Currently, she serves as a Joint Logistics Current Operations Officer at U.S. Southern Command in Doral.

The City of Tamarac has established a “Veterans Honor Wall” to honor residents who have served in the military. This includes veterans, either living or deceased, current Tamarac residents, and those who have lived in the City.
